Mindgame Replaces Wit at Vaudeville
Date: 15 May 2000
Mindgame, a new thriller by Anthony Horowitz, opens at the Vaudeville on 5 June, following previews from 24 May. It replaces the New York transfer of Margaret Edson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Wit, which closed prematurely this weekend.
When the celebrated author Mark Styler arrives at an experimental hospital for the criminally insane, hoping to interview the notorious serial killer Easterman, he stumbles into a nightmare world of murder and deception. What secret is Dr Farquhar hiding and why is Nurse Plimpton so afraid of him? Who is the mysterious Borson and where does he get the meat for his liver sandwiches? And why isn't the skeleton in the closet?
Simon Ward plays Dr Farquhar, Christopher Blake is Mark Styler and Helen Hobson plays Nurse Plimpton. Ward's West End credits include Peter Hall's An Ideal Husband, On Approval and the Almeida's Heartbreak House, with Rex Harrison and Diana Rigg. Blake's stage roles include Benefactors and Sleuth. Hobson starred as Cathy in the musical Heathcliff. Her other stage credits include Passion and Aspects of Love.
Thriller writer Horowitz created the ITV whodunit series 'Midsomer Murders'. His many other screenplays include the new Poirot series and 'Evil Under the Sun'. His new spy thriller novel, 'Stormbreaker', is released this year.
Mindgame is directed by Richard Baron and designed by Ken Harrison with lighting by Mark Pritchard.
Wit opened on 3 April, following previews from 27 March, and had been booking until 24 June 2000. Despite positive reviews, it closed six weeks early, on 13 May.
