Date: 9 November 2012

Casting, led by Gavin Creel and Jared Gertner (pictured above), has been announced for the forthcoming London production of The Book of Mormon,  which comes to the Prince of Wales Theatre from 25 February 2013.

Creel and Gertner, who are currently playing in the Los Angeles production, will play Elder Price and Elder Cunningham respectively. Creel is no stranger to the West End, having played Bert in Mary Poppins and Claude in Hair. His Broadway credits include Hair and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Gertner's theatre credits include the The Book of Mormon on Broadway, Spelling Bee and Ordinary Days.

Other cast members announced today include West End stars Alexia Khadime, Stephen Ashfield and Daniel Buckley. The rest of the company comprises Mark Anderson, Benjamin Brook, Daniel Clift, Ashley Day, Terry Doe, Candace Furbert, Patrick George, Nadine Higgin, Tyrone Huntley, Evan James, Chris Jarman, Michael Kent, Matt Krzan, Oliver Liddert, Daniel McKinley, Luke Newton, Terel Nugent, Haydn Oakley, Olivia Phillip, Lucy St. Louis, Giles Terera, Kayi Ushe, Tosh Wanogho-Maud and Liam Wrate.

The Book of Mormon comes from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez. The show, which won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from Salt Lake City.

Directed by Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker, The Book of Mormon runs at the Prince of Wales Theatre from 25 February 2013.

I am really excited about this! I recently saw Daniel in Loserville at the Garrick and, whilst the production wasn't amazing, I thought he was really good and perfectly channeled a trekkie! I think he'll be good in the cast - isn't he covering Elder Cunningham? I must say I find it a bit strange that they are taking two American actors from the tour and putting them in the original West End cast. I wonder what Equity thinks? Although I suppose they know the roles well and that is why they are bringing the show over. Got my tickets for March 2013! - Becky
