Full casting announced for Bartlett's Headlong Medea

Full casting has been announced for Mike Bartlett's new version of Medea, set to tour the UK this autumn courtesy of Headlong.

The contemporary reworking of the Euripides classic, which is also directed by Bartlett, stars the previously-announced Rachael Stirling in the title role.

Joining her will be Adam Levy (Angels in American, Sunshine Boys, Henry V) as Jason, Paul Brendan (The Cherry Orchard, King Lear, The Threepenny Opera) as Workman, Lu Corfield (The Girlfriend Experience, TV's Eastenders) as Sarah, Christopher Ettridge (The Marat/Sade, Death of a Salesman) as Carter, Amelia Lowdell (The Frontline, Great Expectations) as Pam and Paul Shelley (Earthquakes in London, As You Like It) as Andrew.

The production, a joint venture between Headlong, Citizens Theatre Glasgow and Watford Palace Theatre, opens in Glasgow on 2 October 2012 (previews from 27 September), and transfers to Watford on 18 October (previews from 16 October). It also visits Newcastle, Exeter, Warwick and Cardiff.

Billed as a "startlingly contemporary" piece, the play is set to "explore the private fury bubbling under public behaviour and how in today's world a mother, fuelled by anger at her husband's infidelity, might be driven to commit the worst possible crime".

Headlong has also recently announced a new membership scheme, whereby members can receive priority booking to Headlong productions - including The Effect, the new play by Lucy Prebble directed by Rupert Goold at the National Theatre - as well as get invitations to talks and workshops.
