Robert Bathurst stars in pre-West End tour of Penhall's Blue/Orange

Date: 29 June 2012

Robert Bathurst will star in Joe Penhall's Blue/Orange, which begins a national tour at the Theatre Royal Brighton on 13 September 2012 before transfering to the West End.

Penhall's Olivier Award-winning drama premiered at the National Theatre in 2000, starring Bill Nighy, Andrew Lincoln and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The comedy centres around the relationship between two psychiatrists and their patient. The other two roles have not yet been cast.

This new production is directed by Christopher Luscombe, artistic director at the Theatre Royal, whose production of The Madness of King George III ran in the West End earlier this year. It is produced by Theatre Royal Brighton Productions, a partnership between Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) and Theatre Royal Brighton formed in 2011.

Bathurst is best known for his appearances in the television dramas Cold Feet, Downton Abbey and Wild at Heart. Recent theatre roles have included Charles Condomine in the Noel Coward comedy Blithe Spirit (Theatre Royal Bath and West End) and the eponymous Alex in the live stage version of the Daily Telegraph cartoon.

Blue/Orange runs at Theatre Royal Brighton from 13 to 22 September; the Waterside, Aylesbury from 25 to 29 September; the Princess Theatre, Torquay from 2 to 6 October; the Grand Opera House, York from 9 to 13 October; the New Victoria, Woking from 16 to 20 October; the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham from 23 to 27 October; The Churchill, Bromley from 30 October to 3 November; The Theatre Royal, Glasgow from 6 to 10 November; the Richmond Theatre from 13 to 17 November; the Opera House, Manchester from 20 to 24 November; and the Regent Theatre, Stoke-On-Trent from 27 November to 1 December.

Details of the show's West End transfer have not yet been announced.
