Troughton & Drew Lead Streetcar at Liverpool Playhouse
Date: 24 November 2011

A new revival of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire starring Amanda Drew and Sam Troughton will headline the spring season at the Liverpool Playhouse.

The production, which is being directed by Everyman & Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz, will run from 17 February to 10 March 2012 featuring Drew as Blanche Dubois, Troughton as Stanley Kowalski and Leanne Best as Stella Kowalski.

Amanda Drew’s recent credits include Enron and Butley in the West End, while Sam Troughton played lead roles in Romeo and Juliet and Morte d’Arthur for the RSC last year.

A Streetcar Named Desire, which is the first time a Tennessee Williams play has been produced by the Playhouse in over 30 years, will also feature Annabelle Apsion, Matthew Flynn and Alan Stocks.

Subsequent productions in the season include a collaboration with Shakespeare’s Globe on Henry V, which runs from 12 to 28 April, and on tour to 2 June before its run at the Globe from 8 June. It will be directed by the Globe’s artistic director Dominic Dromgoole.

In May Philip Wilson returns to the Playhouse to direct Alan Ayckbourn’s comic trilogy The Norman Conquests, recently revived to great acclaim at the Old Vic.

Visiting productions will include Vivienne Franzmann’s Mogadishu, Spymonkey’s Oedipussy and Bristol Old Vic’s Swallows and Amazons.

Next year will also see Jonathan Pryce reprise his acclaimed depiction of Pinter’s Davies when The Caretaker embarks on an international tour, opening at the Adelaide Festival in March before going to the Curran Theatre, San Francisco, Southern Theatre, Columbus, Ohio and then to New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music for two months (3 May to 17 June 2012).
