Des O'Connor Joins Dreamboats & Petticoats from 3 Oct

Date: 2 September 2011

Veteran entertainer Des O'Connor will join the cast of rock ’n’ roll compilation musical Dreamboats and Petticoats at the Playhouse Theatre from 3 October 2011.

O’Connor, 79, has enjoyed a career spanning 45 years, including over 1,000 appearances at the London Palladium - but his role in Dreamboats will mark his first time in a West End musical.

His most recent TV appearances include the Des O’Connor Tonight specials, the award-winning ITV talk show Today with Des and Mel and his interview this year on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. He is also a successful music and recording artist, having produced 36 albums which have sold over 16 million copies to date.

In Dreamboats, he will play the multiple roles of Older Bobby and Phil - Bobby’s Dad, who runs the youth club around which the production is based. These are the same roles played by pop singer Tony Christie last year.

Dreamboats and Petticoats, which has a book by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, is based around the Fifties and Sixties hits from the compilation album series of the same name. It features songs from Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Neil Sedaka, Eddie Cochran, Dion and Del Shannon, among others.
