Opening: Forest, Ecstasy, Rosenbergs & Knot

Amongst the major London openings, in the West End and further afield, this week are:

OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 14 March 2011 (previews from 3 March), Matthew Fox and Olivia Williams star in the premiere of psychological sibling thriller In a Forest, Dark and Deep, written and directed by Neil LaBute, for a limited season at the Vaudeville Theatre until 4 June.


OPENING TUESDAY, 15 March 2011 (previews from 10 March), Mike Leigh returns, for the first time ever, to one of his past plays with a revival of 1979's Ecstasy at Hampstead Theatre, where it originally premiered. Until 9 April.

ALSO ON TUESDAY (previews from 10 March), HighTide’s Lidless transfers to Trafalgar Studios 2 for a run to 2 April. The play, which won a Fringe First at the 2010 Edinburgh festival, centres on a former Guantanamo Bay inmate who meets his former interrogator.


OPENING WEDNESDAY, 16 March 2011 (previews from 8 March), Henry Goodman stars in the premiere of Ryan Craig’s The Holy Rosenbergs, following the fortunes of a divided Edgware Jewish family, which runs in rep at the NT Cottesloe until 24 June.


OPENING THURSDAY, 17 March 2011 (previews from 10 March),  Lisa Dillon plays a drug addict in David Eldridge’s new play The Knot of the Heart, running at the Almeida until 30 April.

ALSO ON THURSDAY (previews from 15 March), the Union Theatre in Southwark has teamed up with New York's The Secret Theatre to showcase a selection of new comedy writers from Britain and America. The result, Short and Sweet, runs at the Union until 9 April.


OPENING FRIDAY, 18 March 2011 (previews from 16 March), Allan Monkhouse's 1911 comedy Mary Broome gets a rare revival at the Orange Tree Theatre where, directed by Auriol Smith, it continues until 23 April.
