Campbell Moore Joins West End Clybourne Cast
Date: 11 January 2011

Stephen Campbell Moore, nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the 2011 Whatsonstage.com Awards for his turn last year in All My Sons, will return to the West End this year to star in the transfer of Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park, which is also in the Awards running for Best New Comedy.

Campbell Moore steps in for Jason Watkins, who has had to withdraw from the production due to a family tragedy. He’ll play the parts of Karl/Steve, originated by Martin Freeman in the play’s premiere season last September at the Royal Court. The West End season opens on 8 February 2011 (previews from 28 January) at Wyndham’s Theatre, where it's initially booking until 7 May.

Clybourne Park, which is directed by Royal Court artistic director Dominic Cooke, considers the development of attitudes towards race over time by juxtaposing the problems faced by Russ and Bev, a white couple selling their home to a black family in 1959, with the issues encountered by Lindsey and Steve, a couple trying to raze and rebuild the same house in 2009.

The West End company also includes Stuart McQuarrie and original cast members Lorna Brown, Sarah Goldberg, Michael Goldsmith, Lucian Msamati, Sam Spruell and Sophie Thompson. Campbell Moore’s many other credits include originating the role of Irwin in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys on stage and screen.

In addition to Campbell Moore’s nods, All My Sons has been nominated for five other nominations in the 2011 Whatsonstage.com Awards, including for the production’s three other leads, David Suchet, Zoe Wanamaker and Jemima Rooper. Voting continues until 31 January.

Winners of the 2011 Whatsonstage.com Awards will be announced, and trophies presented, at our annual Awards Concert on Sunday 20 February at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre. As with the Launch Party, at which shortlists were announced in December, the Awards Concert is held in aid of this year’s adopted charity, The Theatrical Guild, which was founded by actors to provide financial and other support to front of house and backstage staff in times of need.

Concert tickets, which range from £25-£47.50, are now on sale and can be booked by phone on 0844 482 5133 or online at www.whatsonstage.com/concert.
