Richard Bean's Fellah Comes to Playhouse

Date: 3 May 2011

Out Of Joint's highly acclaimed play The Big Fellah tours to Liverpool's Playhouse theatre later this month, following huge success in London.

Young New York fireman Michael Doyle decides to live up to his Irish heritage by joining the IRA. He’s recruited by Costello, the charismatic “big fellah” and soon finds himself sharing his Bronx apartment with a killer busted from a Belfast jail. Set among Irish Americans in New York, Richard Bean’s dark, glinting, funny play spans three turbulent decades from Bloody Sunday to 9/11. A boisterous and witty story of loyalty, disillusion and betrayal.

Bean’s plays include Under The Whaleback, Harvest (Critics’ Circle Awards: Best Play), Honeymoon Suite, The English Game and most recently the controversial, Olivier-nominater England People Very Nice for the National Theatre.

The Big Fellah is directed by Max Stafford-Clark, designed by Tim Shortall with the lighting design by Jason Taylor. Sound is by Nick Manning and the cast includes Rory Keenan, Youssef Kerkour, Finbar Lynch, Claire Rafferty, David Ricardo-Pearce, Fred Ridgeway, and Stephanie Street.

The production runs at the Liverpol Playhouse from 17 - 21 May.
