Dr Who Regenerates as Inspector Morse in Poole

Date: 4 November 2010

Dr. Who regenerates as Inspector Morse in the brand-new UK stage tour of House of Ghosts, which visits Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts later this month.

Based on Colin Dexter’s best-selling novels, the popular television crime drama is to make its first-ever transition from screen-to-stage with former Doctor Who actor, Colin Baker, leading a cast of 15 as Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse. For more on Colin Baker and his role in the production see our 'Spotlight on Colin Baker' feature.

Unlike more recent screen-to-stage productions, this brand-new Morse mystery is not an adaptation of the television series, but a completely original stage play inspired by the novels and written by Alma Cullen with guidance and support from novelist Colin Dexter OBE.

Of the collaboration on the new stage adaptation Producer Ed O’Driscoll says, “We’re keenly aware of our responsibility to the millions of fans of both the books and TV series and have tried to stay true to the spirit of Colin Dexter’s marvellous characters. At the same time we’re obviously very excited by this unique opportunity to bring Morse to the stage with a new mystery to solve, that we’re sure will thrill audiences across the UK”.

Precisely 35-years after Morse’s first appearance in Colin Dexter’s novel, ‘Last Bus to Woodstock’, the stage show, entitled, House of Ghosts, sees the inscrutable Detective looking to his past, when an old acquaintance becomes the lead suspect in a murder case that involves the on-stage death of a young actress.

House of Ghosts plays at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts 22 – 27 November 2010.
