Dirty Dancing UK Tour Opens in Bristol, Sep 2011

Date: 29 October 2010

Hit screen-to-stage musical Dirty Dancing is set to embark on its first UK tour, beginning at the Bristol Hippodrome on 1 September 2011.

Now in its fifth year at the West End's Aldwych Theatre, Dirty Dancing broke box office records when it opened in 2006 with advanced ticket sales of over £15 million, and has since played to over one million people.

The London show, which has extended is run at the Aldwych until 29 October 2011, will run concurrently with the tour, which will visit:

Bristol – Bristol Hippodrome, 1 September to 8 October 2011; Glasgow – King’s Theatre, 19 October to 12 November 2011; Manchester – Manchester Palace, 22 November 2011 to 7 January 2012; Dublin – Grand Canal Theatre, 17 January to 25 February 2012; Aberdeen – His Majesty’s Theatre, 6 to 31 March 2012; Southampton – Mayflower Theatre, 3 to 28 April 2012; Milton Keynes – Milton Keynes Theatre, 1 to 26 May 2012.

Further dates are to be announced early in 2011.

Eleanor Bergstein, scriptwriter and creator of Dirty Dancing, said: “I am happy to announce the opening of the UK tour of Dirty Dancing. In our fifth year in London, it is still astounding for me to sit amid our audiences, many of whom I discover have planned long in advance and travelled far to see us. Each performance, they honour us with a personal and loving response which delights us and makes us grateful It is a special pleasure then for us to plan a production that will have the chance both to visit and thank those who have travelled so far to see us, and to take our show to those who could not make the journey”.

Tickets go on sale 1 November 2010, with further dates and venues to be announced soon.
