Fry Brings Solo Twitter Show to Albert Hall, 20 SepDate: 16 August 2010
Writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry will star in a show about his experiences using Twitter in a one-night event at London's Royal Albert Hall. The show, held on 20 September 2010, will have its content dictated by Fry's Twitter followers. It follows similar events held in Sydney and Melbourne last month.
Speaking to the Independent about the concept, Fry said: "I'm not going to move among the audience, but I will ask people on Twitter if they have any questions or subjects, and I will respond accordingly."
Writing on his blog, Fry said: "I have MC-ed, hosted, guested and otherwise infested that noble venue (the Royal Albert Hall) many times over the last quarter century, but never have I done a whole evening on my own. I am excited." He went on to suggest that, if the format was successful, he might tour the show saying: "If it goes well and people seem to enjoy it, then I can think of nothing I would enjoy more than travelling around for a month or so, taking in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and all parts of England."
Fry is a popular and prolific user of the microblogging service, with a follower count of almost 1.7 million people. It has been suggested that opening the floor to questions from his fans could lead to Fry tackling some serious issues, including his battle with depression. The entertainer has insisted that nothing will be off limits during the event, and that he will discuss whatever material takes his fancy.
