Shakespeare’s Globe Comes to Portsmouth

The Shakespeare’s Globe production of The Comedy of Errors is touring the UK this summer and, in association with the New Theatre Royal, comes to Portsmouth City Museum Gardens for five performances from Thursday 17 – Sunday 20 June

Performed on an Elizabethan-inspired stage, a small troupe of travelling players breathe new life into this delightfully anarchic play. Fast, furious and extremely funny, eight talented actors reinvent renaissance touring theatre for the 21st century with Shakespeare’s greatest farce. Fast-paced, hilarious and seemingly irreverent, the young William Shakespeare explores themes in this comedy that recur again and again in his later work: mistaken identity, coincidence and the importance of family.

This funny, dazzling and incredibly popular play is directed by Rebecca Gatward whose directing credits include The Canterbury Tales (RSC, Gielgud Theatre and world tour), The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark (Bristol Old Vic) and This is our Youth starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck (Garrick Theatre).

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre season plays in repertory from April to October annually and has gained an international reputation for performance excellence. Over the past three years the Globe has extended its work to reach audiences around the country, with great success.

If you can’t make it to the Globe this summer then pack your picnic rugs and head to the City Museum Gardens for a stunning open air performance.
