Rambert & Royal Ballet Scoop 2010 Olivier Dance

This year’s Olivier Awards for Dance have been won by Rambert Dance Company and The Royal Ballet’s Tamara Rojo, it was announced last night.

Rambert received The Outstanding Achievement in Dance award for its creative and strategic advances in the past year, which included new work and progress on its new home on the South Bank. The company’s artistic director Mark Baldwin, said: “For us, this award is a huge endorsement of what Rambert strives for: artistic excellence through creativity. This is Rambert’s moment. I would very much like to thank the judges for their recognition at this critical time in the Company’s history.”

The Olivier for Best New Dance Production went to The Royal Ballet’s Tamara Rojo and choreographer Kim Brandstrup for their collaboration at ROH2. Goldberg: The Brandstrup Rojo Project used J S Bach’s Goldberg Variations as the starting point to examine the dancer’s life. It was performed a diverse group of dancers in the intimate setting of the Linbury Studio Theatre. Brandstrup has been commissioned to create a new work for The Royal Ballet next season.
