Inspector Calls at Wyndham's After Shawshank

Date: 4 November 2009

Following the early closure of The Shawshank Redemption at Wyndham's Theatre at the end of this month (See News, 3 Nov 2009), the current West End revival of An Inspector Calls is set to transfer to the venue, from 3 December, for a three-month run.

An Inspector Calls, which is currently at the Novello Theatre, where it opened on 22 September 2009, is a revival of Stephen Daldry's multi award-winning production of JB Priestley's 1946 thriller, which premiered at the National Theatre a decade ago.

The play centres on the comfortable and complacent middle class world of the Birling family, which is thrown into chaos when a mysterious police inspector arrives at the family home one night to enquire about the death of a young local girl. In total, the acclaimed production has won 19 major awards - including three Oliviers and four Tonys - in London and New York.

The production is designed by Ian MacNeil with lighting by Rick Fisher and music by Stephen Warbeck. The cast is led by Nicholas Woodeson as the Inspector, alongside David Roper, Sandra Duncan, Marianne Oldham, Robin Whiting, Timothy Watson and Diana Payne Myers.

Currently at Wyndham's, the new stage adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novella The Shawshank Redemption, which stars American actors Kevin Anderson and Reg E Cathey closes on 29 November.
