ENB bring Giselle to North West

The very best classical ballet arrives at The Palace Theatre this Autumn with Giselle. This is the opening venue of English National Ballet Autumn Tour 2009 in association with Sky ARTS (National tour sponsor 2009).

Giselle is the haunting tale of a peasant girl’s innocent love for the handsome Duke Albrecht and her subsequent betrayal, which casts the characters into the realm of madness and the supernatural. First performed in Paris in 1841 Giselle has become synonymous with the Romantic movement of the day and is often described as the ultimate Romantic ballet.

Last seen at the Coliseum in January 2007, the piece makes a welcome return to English National Ballet’s repertoire this Autumn Tour. Mary Skeaping’s critically acclaimed production was bought to English National Ballet in 1971 by the then Artistic Director Dame Beryl Grey.

This production of Giselle features English National Ballet’s dancers from across the world, including rising stars [Begoña Cao], and [Anaïs Chalendard], both seen recently with Carlos Acosta in the Manchester International Festival.

Giselle features music by ENB's full Symphony Orchestra led by Gavin Sutherland. The tour opens on 22 Sept at the Palace, Manchester (until 26th Sept) but also visits Liverpool from 28 Oct until 1st Nov.
