Comedian Ed Byrne Attends Class at Vaudeville

Irishman Ed Byrne has become the latest comedian to announce a West End season. He will bring his stand-up show Different Class to the Vaudeville Theatre for a fortnight from 7 to 19 September 2009, before heading off on another national tour in the autumn.

Different Class examines Byrne’s inability to fit in, whether it be with the youth of today, the old, the middle class or the working class. Steadily turning into a grumpy middle aged man Ed touches on all things that exasperate him including the planning of his recent marriage, class and all its divisions, the young and their ways and anything else that strikes him as humorous.

Byrne’s show comes to the West End after two national tours, international dates in New Zealand and Canada, and sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and west London’s Riverside Studios. The DVD of Different Class will be released this autumn.

Byrne’s previous stand-up shows include Pedantic and Whimsical. He’s been seen on TV on Father Ted, The Graham Norton Show, Live at the Apollo and as a regular panellist on Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You.

Other comedians who’ve recently had extended seasons in the West End include Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard and Rob Brydon. In the autumn, both Ross Noble and Dylan Moran will have stints at the Apollo, while Frank Skinner will resume a Monday night residency at the Lyric for his Credit Crunch Cabaret from 12 October (See News, 29 Apr 2009).
