Patrick Kielty Opens Night in November in October

Northern Irish comedian and TV presenter Patrick Kielty (pictured) will make his West End debut in A Night in November, the World Cup-set drama by Stones in His Pockets’ Marie Jones, which will return to London next month for a limited season at Trafalgar Studios, where it will have a limited season in the 400-seat Studio 1 from 15 October to 1 December 2007.

The 1995 one-man play takes a hard and humorous look at the Protestant tradition in Northern Ireland. Dole clerk Kenneth McCallister is tolerant man - he tolerates his marriage, his in-laws and Ulster until, one fateful night in November. As the Republic of Ireland qualifies against Northern Ireland for the World Cup, he finds himself watching not the match, but the sectarian hatred of the crowd. The play follows Kenneth on his rebellious journey as he travels to New York to join the supporters of the Republic's soccer team.

A Night in November, with Marty Maguire then playing Kenneth, had a limited run in July 2002 at the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn (See News, 13 Jun 2002), where Stones in His Pockets was also first seen in London before transferring to the West End and on to multi award-winning international success. Jones' other work includes Women on the Verge of HRT.

Like Jones, Kielty hails from Northern Ireland. Kielty was raised a Catholic; his father was murdered by a loyalist Ulster paramilitary group. After success on Irish television, he has been seen on screen hosting the likes of Fame Academy, Celebrity Love Island and multiple seasons of his own chat show Patrick Kielty Almost Live. Last year, he returned to the stand-up circuit, touring a new show around the UK.

Currently at Trafalgar Studio 1, Norwegian screen-to-stage comedy Elling, starring John Simm and Adrian Bower, will finish its three-month West End run on 6 October ahead of a planned tour in 2008 (See News, 7 Sep 2007).
