Jersey Boys Opens at Prince Edward in March 2008

Date: 6 July 2007

As previously tipped (See The Goss, 23 Mar 2007), the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Jersey Boys, based on the back catalogue of The Four Seasons, will open at the Prince Edward Theatre in March 2008 (date tbc), following previews from 28 February 2007.

Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the blue collar kids from New Jersey who formed a singing group and became famous. The musical – directed by Des McAnuff with a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice – features many of the group’s pop hits from the Sixties such as "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Oh What a Night" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You".

Opening at New York’s August Wilson Theater in November 2005, it won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical (See News, 12 Jun 2006). The full creative team for the musical – including scenic design by Klara Zieglerova, costume design by Jess Goldstein and lighting design by Howell Binkley – are expected to join the production in London.

Currently running at the Prince Edward Theatre is the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh production of Mary Poppins, which will finish its three-year London run on 12 January 2008, ahead of an extensive regional tour (See News, 1 Jun 2007).

NOTE: Public booking has not yet opened for Jersey Boys.
