Swayze Joined by Janus, Nuttall & Bowman in Guys
Date: 29 September 2006

Following this week’s confirmation that Patrick Swayze has extended his contract in Guys and Dolls (See News, 27 Sep 2006), new cast members have been announced to join him. From 16 October 2006, Samantha Janus (pictured), Amy Nuttall and Norman Bowman will star as Miss Adelaide, Sarah Brown and Sky Masterson, respectively.

Janus is best known for her television roles in Pie in the Sky, Game On and Home Again. On stage, she starred in Peter Hall’s 2004 tour of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. Nuttall was most recently seen on tour as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, and is also known for her role in the long-running TV soap Emmerdale. Bowman is already a member of the Guys and Dolls company, understudying the role of Sky, which he now takes over in his own right.

Swayze made his West End debut playing Nathan Detroit in Michael Grandage’s multi award-winning revival at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre, where he started performances on 27 July 2006 (See News, 24 Jul 2006). He is scheduled to stay in the show until 25 November 2006. The other current principals - Adam Cooper, Kelly Price and Lynsey Britton – remain until 14 October 2006. Swayze will have a week's holiday from 9 to 14 October 2006, when the role of Nathan will be played by understudy Andrew Playfoot.

Based on Damon Runyon’s short stories about New York gamblers and their girls in the 1940s, Frank Loesser’s 1950 musical was made into a 1953 Hollywood film starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra.

The current London production is designed by Christopher Oram, with choreography by Rob Ashford, musical supervision by Jae Alexander, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Terry Jardine and Chris Full. It’s presented by the Ambassador Theatre Group and Live Nation in association with the Donmar Warehouse.
