Grumpy Women Transfers for 37 West End DatesDate: 24 May 2006
Following its current sell-out spring tour (See News, 22 Feb 2006), and ahead of launching another two-month tour in October, the stage version of BBC Two’s hit TV show Grumpy Old Women will transfer directly to the West End, running for a strictly limited 37 performances only at the Lyric Theatre from 14 June to 15 July 2006.
In Grumpy Old Women, regular TV contributors and stage originators Jenny Eclair, Dillie Keane and Linda Robson (pictured together) play host to the “orgy of middle-aged mayhem: theatrical HRT with not a thong in sight”.
Grumpy Old Women Live has been co-written by comedian, writer and performer Eclair with Judith Holder, producer of the BBC2 television series, and script-edited by Richard Herring (Talking Cock, Christ on a Bike on stage, TV’s Little Britain, Fist of Fun). The show is directed by Chris George, designed by Dora Schweitzer and produced by Avalon Promotions and Liberty Bell Productions.
The TV original attracted 4.8 million viewers per episode during the first series, and five million for its Christmas specials. It’s billed as “a celebration of the pre, peri and post-menopausal female condition”. The show had its stage debut with limited regional engagements last autumn. Its present tour launched on 21 April and concludes on 9 June 2006.
Currently at the Lyric, Carmel Morgan’s Smaller - starring Dawn French, Alison Moyet and June Watson and directed by Kathy Burke - finishes its extended run on 3 June 2006, ahead of a week at the Manchester Opera House from 6 to 10 June (See News, 16 May 2006).
