Pianist Rifkin Ends Singular Sensations SeasonDate: 27 July 2004
Internationally renowned classical pianist Joshua Rifkin and soprano Ida Faiella will complete the six-week “Singular Sensations” season of musical and cabaret evenings at the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket’s (See News, 21 Jul & 20 Jul 2004). The pair will perform in the final week, 11 to 16 October 2004, following the earlier runs of Barbara Cook, Michael Feinstein and Michael Ball.
Rifkin (pictured) and Faiella’s show will comprise theatre music and various solo pieces by the pianist, including his well-known rendition of the Scott Joplin Rag.
“Singular Sensations” kicks off with Broadway diva Cook performing, from 7 to 11 September only, her one-woman show Barbara Cook's Broadway, which was briefly seen at the West End’s Gielgud Theatre in May. She’s followed by multiple Grammy nominee and fellow American Michael Feinstein from 13 to 25 September (See News, 20 Jul 2004).
West End favourite Michael Ball will then reprise a version of his intimate Alone Together performance, previously seen (and recorded) in 2001 as part of the now defunct Divas at the Donmar annual season of cabaret. Ball will play for a fortnight from 27 September to 9 October 2004 (See News, 21 Jul 2004).
Currently at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, the screen-to-stage adaptation of romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, now starring Molly Ringwald and Michael Landes, will finish its seven-month run on 4 September 2004.
“Singular Sensations” will be followed by John Caird’s revival of Jean Anouilh’s Becket, starring Dougray Scott in the title role and Jasper Britton as King Henry II, who clashes with the archbishop (See News, 9 Jul 2004). It opens for a 16-week run on 27 October 2004 (previews from 20 October).
