Iraqi Nine Parts of Desire Transfers to London Bush

Ahead of its UK premiere at next month's Edinburgh Festival (See News, 6 Jun 2003), Nine Parts of Desire, a new play by Iraqi-American playwright Heather Raffo, has already confirmed its London transfer. It will have a limited season at the Bush Theatre from 10 September to 4 October 2003.

In Nine Parts of Desire, an Iraqi woman artist - known for her daring use of the female nude and rumoured affairs with men tied to the regime - paints into life an astonishing generation of women, exposing their radical, sexy and ultimately human stories. The piece aims to challenge both the rapidly changing Iraqi feminine identity and the Western view of what such women must be thinking.

Prior to its London season, Nine Parts of Desire will play at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre next month, from 3 to 25 August 2003, as part of the 57th annual Edinburgh Fringe, the world's largest arts festival. The piece is presented by Richard Jordan Productions Ltd and Erich Jungwirth/VoiceChair Productions in association with The Bush Theatre.

Other productions that have already confirmed their passage south include the Presnyakov Brothers' Playing the Victim and Gregory Burke's The Straits, which will both have regional tours as well as London runs at, respectively, the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs in September and Hampstead Theatre in October.
