Williams Follows Nobody with Boys Premiere at Mill

Simon Williams premieres his latest stage play next week. Boys Will Be Boys, the sequel to last year's Nobody's Perfect, has a six-week season at Oxfordshire's Mill at Sonning, where it opens on 1 July 2003 (previews from 24 June) ahead of a planned UK tour. Williams once again stars as well as directs.

In Boys Will Be Boys, the very masculine but lovesick Lenny (Williams) - who previously cross-dressed his way to success as Myrtle Banbury, the queen of romantic novels - has had enough of the fame, the lies, the lipstick, the wig, to say nothing of the high heels. He decides to 'kill off' auntie Myrtle, but hasn't reckoned on journalist Letitia Butters, who believes he really has committed murder.

As an actor, Williams first came to national prominence in the 1970s sitcom Upstairs, Downstairs. He later went on to appear in TV's First Among Equals, Don't Wait Up, Return of the Man from UNCLE, Law and Disorder and Killer Net; and in films such as Jabberwocky, The Black Knight, The Prisoner of Zenda and The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu.

Williams' many theatre acting credits have included: in the West End, A Friend Indeed, Hay Fever, His Hers and Theirs, The Collector, No Sex Please, We're British, Gigi, The Winslow Boy and, most recently, The Constant Wife. He is also an accomplished author, having written two novels and three other plays, Laying the Ghost, Switchback, Kiss of Death, in addition to Boys Will Be Boys, the sequel to last year's Nobody's Perfect.

Other cast members for Boys Will Be Boys include Karen Ascoe, Sheila Ballantine, Gareth Thomas and the author's daughter Amy Williams. The production is designed by Jane Kidd and lit by Roslyn Nash. Full dates for the tour following Sonning have not been announced.
