Church Music Replaces Requiem as Cardiff FinaleDate: 31 October 2002
Young classical music superstar Charlotte Church (pictured) will join other Welsh singers, including the West End's former Jesus Christ Superstar Steve Balsamo, in the grand finale concert for the first ever International Festival of Musical Theatre.
The Music of the Night concert, featuring songs from several of Andrew Lloyd Webber's best-loved musicals, replaces the previously announced performance of Lloyd Webber's Requiem, which has been cancelled due to scheduling difficulties.
Music of the Night takes place this Sunday 3 November 2002 at Cardiff's Llandaff Cathedral. The evening draws to a close the inaugural festival, which opened on 12 October 2002 and comprised more than 100 events across ten venues in the city. A biennial event, the next festival is scheduled for autumn 2004.
As part of the finale concert, Church will sing "Rainbow High" from Evita and Balsamo will repeat his acclaimed rendition of "Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar. They will be joined by fellow Welsh stars Shan Cothi, Wynne Evans and Ria Jones singing a selection of numbers from Lloyd Webber and other popular musicals including My Fair Lady and West Side Story.
The Music of the Night concert is being held in aid of The Prince's Trust Cymru. Tickets range from £15 to £35. Call the Festival hotline on 0870 904 2003 for more information.
