US Satirist Moore Premieres at Roundhouse, 7 Nov

Date: 18 September 2002

American political provocateur Michael Moore's first live one-man show - currently titled Michael Moore - Live! - will receive its premiere at London's Roundhouse this autumn (See The Goss, 9 Sep 02), opening for a four-week season on 7 November 2002, after which, according to today's Stage newspaper, a Broadway transfer is on the cards.

The show was meant to take place at last month's Edinburgh Fringe, but a bereaved Moore had to pull out at the last minute after his mother's sudden death. Amongst other matters, the show gives Moore's own take on the events of 11 September. Michael Moore - Live! was replaced in the Edinburgh schedule by actor-writer-director Steven Berkoff's own ode to the terrorist attacks, Requiem.

Moore (pictured) came to prominence with 1989's Roger and Me. The award-winning documentary - which Moore wrote, directed and presented - detailed the devastation of his hometown in Flint, Michigan, after the shutdown of the General Motors factories there.

His subsequent satirical films and television series have included TV Nation, The Awful Truth, The Big One and Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint. Moore is also the author of Downsize This! Random Threats From an Unarmed American and, controversially released this year in the wake of 11 September, Stupid White Men ...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation!, which is savagely critical of US president and "thief-in-chief" George W Bush.
