Wilmot & Francis Lead Tour of Greene's Travels

Gary Wilmot and Clive Francis will star in a new three-month, UK-wide tour of Graham Greene's Travels with My Aunt. The production opens on 19 August 2002 at the Nottingham Playhouse, launching the theatre's autumn season, before continuing to 12 further venues until 23 November.

Travels With My Aunt follows the journey of retired bank employee Henry Pulling. Suddenly whisked away by his vivacious Aunt Augusta, Henry travels to far and exotic places meeting new people and embracing the swinging 1960s lifestyle.

One of the leading British novelists of the 20th century, Graham Greene's many famous titles include Brighton Rock, The Quiet American, Our Man in Havana, The End of the Affair, The Power and the Glory and The Heart of the Matter. Travels with My Aunt was published in 1969.

Giles Havergal's stage adaptation of Travels with My Aunt was first presented at Glasgow's Citizen's Theatre in 1989, when it went on to play the West End (winning the 1993 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment) and Broadway.

This revival of director Richard Baron's production has been recast with Wilmot and Francis joined by Jeffrey Holland and Andrew Greenough, the four of whom play more than 20 characters between them. Wilmot's stage credits include Me and My Girl and the just-completed year-long tour of The Pirates of Penzance. Francis has recently been seen on the West End stage in Gross Indecency and Entertaining Mr Sloane while his TV credits include Longitude, Lipstick on Your Collar and Poldark.

Travels with My Aunt is designed by Ken Harrison, with lighting by Nick Richings and sound by Jon Beales. It is presented on tour by Julius Green and Ian Lenagan.

Following its season in Nottingham, the production will visit Brighton, Cambridge, Bromley, Coventry, Guildford, Wolverhampton, Eastbourne, Manchester, Darlington, Plymouth and Richmond.
