Lawrence & Dobson Reunite for Frozen London Run

Josie Lawrence, Anita Dobson and Tom Georgeson will reunite this summer at the National Theatre for the London premiere of Bryony Lavery's award-winning Frozen. The play, first seen in May 1998 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre with the same cast, will open at the NT Cottesloe 3 July 2002, following previews from 28 June.

After ten-year-old Rhona goes missing, her mother Nancy retreats into a state of frozen hope. Meanwhile, Agnetha, an American academic, comes to England to research her thesis on serial killing, and Ralph, a loner with a history, is looking for some distraction. Drawn together by horrific circumstances, these three characters embark upon a long, dark journey.

Following its debut, Frozen won both the Barclays/TMA Award for Best New Play and the Central Television Award for Best Play. Lavery's other plays include A Wedding Story, Ilyria, Calamity and Origin of the Species, in addition to novel-to-stage adaptations of Kate Atkinson's Behind the Scenes at the Museum and, most recently, Angela Carter's The Magic Toyshop for Shared Experience.

Currently appearing in The Island of Slaves at the Lyric Hammersmith, Anita Dobson is best known for her long-running role as Angie Watts in TV's EastEnders. Her other stage credits include The Pajama Game, The Vagina Monologues and, at the National, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.

Comedian and actress Josie Lawrence is well known to TV audiences for her appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, while her recent stage acting credits include The King and I, Alarms and Excursions, The Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing. Georgeson's recent stage appearances include The Good Hope (National) and Lulu, while his TV credits include Silent Witness and GBH.

Frozen is directed by Bill Alexander, formerly artistic director at Birmingham Rep, and designed by Ruari Murchison, with lighting by Paul Pyant and music by Jonathan Goldstein.
