Marlowe Takes Berkoff's Women to Arts from 28 Jan

Date: 9 January 2002

Following a short run this month in Manchester, Linda Marlowe will bring her take on Berkoff's Women to the West End for a limited, three-week season. The one-woman show will run late evenings at the Arts Theatre from 28 January to 2 February followed by a short break and then a conclusion of performances from 11 to 23 February 2002.

Marlowe has had a long association with writer, director and fellow actor Steven Berkoff. In fact, it was Berkoff himself who suggested that Marlowe create her own show, interpreting some of his most compelling characters. Berkoff's Women is a compendium of women's roles from well-known Berkoff works, both comedies and tragedies, including Decadence, Agamemnon, East, Greek, Sturm und Drang and From My Point of View.

Berkoff's Women was launched at the 1999 Edinburgh Festival and returned there in 2001. The show subsequently visited the West End's New Ambassadors Theatre and toured extensively in the UK as well as in New York, Hong Kong, South America and Canada. Prior to its upcoming London engagement, it will play at Manchester's Library Theatre from 23 to 26 January.

Marlowe's career encompasses performing in theatre, television and film as well as directing for the stage. Her previous West End credits include Decadence, The Trial, Metamorphosis, Hamlet and Greek, all directed by Steven Berkoff, as well as Too Clever by Half and A Flea in Her Ear. Her TV and film credits include The Green Man, She's Out, Midsomer Murders, Beckett, Big Zapper and Chambers.

Berkoff's Women is directed by Josie Lawrence and produced by Rachel Daniels.
