Live Bed Show Embarks on UK Tour, 19 Aug
Date: 10 August 1998

Arthur Smith s West End comedy Live Bed Show will receive its first national tour, starting from this month when the production kicks off the first of ten engagements at the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch, Essex on 24 August (previews from 19 August). The new production features pop star Toyah Willcox and Joe McGann and is directed by the Olivier Award-winning director Bob Carlton.

McGann plays ‘Cash , a man who falls in and out of love with Willcox's ‘Maria . When he's not with her, he dreams about her, and when he is with her, he tries every trick in the book to get her into bed. Meanwhile, Maria pretends to be celibate in an attempt to put off answering the big question - is Cash the right man for her?

Live Bed Show is written by Arthur Smith, creator of the award-winning World Cup comedy An Evening with Gary Lineker. Live Bed Show premiered in 1995 at the West End's Garrick Theatre where it ran for three months.

Bob Carlton, now artistic director at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, is best known for his writing and directing of the hit sci-fi musical Return to the Forbidden Planet which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical in 1990. Other credits include the musical From A Jack To A King which was also staged in the West End.

Toyah Willcox has worked extensively in theatre, television and music, with 13 top 40 singles and albums to her name. Her stage credits include roles in Birmingham Repertory and National Theatre productions, amongst them Tales from Vienna Woods and Whale. Her film credits include Quadrophenia and Jubilee. Joe McGann, best known as ‘Charlie in television's The Upper Hand, has recently appeared as ‘Bill Sykes in the West End production of Lionel Bart s Oliver! at the London Palladium.

Live Bed Show is a co-production between the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, Tabs Productions and Incidental Theatre Ltd. Design is by Yoon-Jung Bae and lighting by Chris Jaeger.

The national tour is currently scheduled through 31 October 1998 and, following Hornchurch, will call in at Dartford, Peterborough, Brighton, Croydon, Lincoln, Worthing, Poole, Preston and Cheltenham.
