Binoche Follows Neeson to West End

Date: 6 April 1998

The Almeida has confirmed that its production of Pirandello's Naked, starring French film star Juliette Binoche, will transfer to the West End. The play, which has just finished its run at the Company's Islington home, will follow the Almeida's production of David Hare's The Judas Kiss, starring Liam Neeson, into the Playhouse Theatre. The Judas Kiss finishes there 18 April; Naked begins its new five and a half week engagement on Thursday, 23 April.

Binoche will return to the lead role of Ersilia Dei along with the rest of the cast which includes Oliver Ford Davies, Kevin McNally and Anita Reeves. Almeida co-director Jonathan Kent directs the story about a young woman, running from her past, who is sheltered by an elderly novelist.

Prior to Naked, Binoche's most recent stage appearance was as Nina in The Seagull at the Théâtre de l'Odéon in Paris. She is best known for her work in films such as The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Damage, Three Colours Blue and most recently The English Patient for which she won an Oscar.

The Almeida's star-studded season continues next with a revival of Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh starring Kevin Spacey.
