Barker s First Play Premieres at King s HeadDate: 7 September 1998Comedian Ronnie Barker s first stage play will receive its world premiere later this month at London fringe theatre, the King's Head. The play, entitled Mum, will play a seven week season from Monday 28 September 1998, with previews from 23 September. The surreal black comedy centres around a young office cleaner in the London suburb of Dalston and explores her aspirations and her relationships with her parents and her lover. The cast features Charlotte Barker, David Maybrick and David Sterne. Barker made her stage debut last year in the West End production of Stepping Out - The New Musical, directed by Julia McKenzie. Other stage credits include regional productions of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Uncle Vanya, The Children's Hour and Noises Off. Mum is directed King's Head artistic director Dan Crawford who founded the theatre in 1970. Design is by James King. In addition to his international acclaim as an entertainer in live performances and television series such as Porridge and Open All Hours, Ronnie Barker is an established writer. Many of the sketches for The Two Ronnies television series were written by him under the pseudonym Gerald Wiley. Barker retired from performing in 1988 but made a special appearance at last year's Royal Variety Show with his old partner Ronnie Corbett. Related Content |
