LuPone Headlines 1999 Divas at the DonmarDate: 29 May 1999The Donmar Warehouse is following up last year's successful cabaret summer season with another four weeks of 'Divas at the Donmar' this August. The season, running 9 August to 4 September, features stage stars Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald as well as recording artist Sam Brown. The award-winning Patti LuPone opens the season with her show 'Matters of the Heart', which she has already taken to the US and Australia. Amongst LuPone's many stage musicals credits she created both the role of 'Fantine' in Les Miserables (at the RSC and on the West End) and 'Norma Desmond' in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. LuPone is followed by American Audra McDonald from 23 to 28 August. The Broadway star has won Tony Awards for her performances in Carousel, Master Class and Ragtime. The season concludes with singer Sam Brown from 31 August to 4 September. In addition to her 1998 solo album 'Stop', Brown has sung with some of the top names in the music industry, including Pink Floyd, Elton John, Tina Turner and pianist Jools Holland, with whom she performs frequently.
