New Take on Moliere's Don Juan Tours UK
Date: 30 April 1999

English Touring Theatre premieres a new adaptation this week of Moliere's Don Juan, translated by Kenneth McLeish. The production, which opens tomorrow in Crewe (following previews from 26 April), continues touring until 26 June.

Don Juan stars Rupert Holliday Evans as the eponymous hero and David Cardy as his sidekick, Sganarelle. Holliday Evans's recent credits include the film A Wing and a Prayer, television's Cider with Rosie, with Juliet Stevenson, and a national RSC tour. Cardy has appeared in two other English Touring productions, including The Taming of the Shrew, in which he played Petruchio.

They are joined in the cast by Poppy Miller, Michael Cronin, Daniel Goode, Jonathan Newth, Claire Calbraith, Lindsay Carr and Grant Gillespie. Don Juan is directed by English Touring's artistic director Stephen Unwin with design by Neil Warmington, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound and music by Corin Buckeridge and costumes by Mark Bouman.

English Touring Theatre's production of Jonathan Harvey's latest play, Hushabye Mountain, is currently running at London's Hampstead Theatre following a successful national tour. And in the autumn, the company will mount a new production of Henrik Ibsen's The Master Builder.

Don Juan visits Crewe (til 1 May), Bury St Edmunds (11-15 May), Malvern (25-30 May), Cambridge (1-5 June), Cheltenham (8-12 June), Worthing (15-19 June) and Oxford (22-26 June).
