Whitemore Disposes of the Body at Hampstead
Date: 29 June 1999

Hugh Whitemore's new play, Disposing of the Body, premieres next month at the fringe Hampstead Theatre in north London. The drama opens Tuesday 13 July (previews from 8 July) and continues until Saturday 28 August.

Forced into early retirement, Henry Preece leaves London for rural Gloucestershire. It's a move which promises a secure, if predictable, middle age - he's comfortably off, with an attractive wife and ample time to pursue his hobbies in a beautiful country cottage. Until, that is, an unexpected passion changes his life irrevocably.

Whitemore's last play, A Letter of Resignation, about Harold Macmillan's handling of the 1963 Profumo affair, had an extended West End run at first the Comedy and then Savoy Theatres in 1997/98. His other stage plays include Stevie, Pack of Lies, Breaking the Code and It's Ralph. His numerous award-winning television adaptations include Cider with Rosie and A Dance to the Music of Time.

Disposing of the Body stars Stephen Moore, Charlotte Cornwell and Gemma Jones who are joined by James Benson, Ken Drury, David Horovitch, Joanna McCallum and Ben Porter. It is directed by Robin Lefèvre, associated director at the Hampstead whose last production there was Brian Friel's Give Me Your Answer Do!, and designed by Tom Piper with lighting by Mick Hughes and music by Anders Sodergren.
