Globe Opens World's Largest Exhibit to Bard

The Globe Theatre's new exhibition, the largest in the world dedicated to Shakespeare and his workplace, opens to the public today, following last night's official opening ceremony presided by Dame Judi Dench.
Housed in the 'undercroft', directly beneath the Globe, the exhibition hopes to attract over 400,000 visitors per year. Against the historical background of Bankside, the City of London's playground in Shakespeare's day, displays will concentrate on the actors and others involved in staging Shakespeare's plays and the audiences who attended them in addition to the architecture of the playhouse and the craftsmen who designed, built and decorated it.
The exhibition uses a combination of traditional craft and modern technology to bring the bard's work to life. Interactive exhibits include an opportunity to compose Elizabethan music and a form of Shakespeare karaoke. Two booths with touch screens and microphones will allow visitors to perform a part in short extracts from Shakespeare's classics. Scenes available include Hamlet's encounter with Yorick's skull and the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet.
