Search Begins for 2000 Olivier Judges
Date: 16 September 1999
The Society of London Theatre has launched its annual campaign to find 12 members of the general public to join the judging panel for next year's Laurence Olivier Awards, the country's most prestigious performing arts awards. The Awards are unique amongst UK theatre awards as they are the only ones to combine members of the theatre-going public with arts industry experts.
As part of the judging process, the panellists will each be given a pair of complimentary tickets for all proposed productions between 1 January and 31 December 2000.
There are three independent panels for the awards:
Theatre, consisting of five professional judges and eight members of the public. Of these, four are expected to cover plays and four musicals. Panellists will be required to see approximately 60 productions during the course of the year.
Opera and Dance, each consisting of three professional judges and two members of the public. Panellists will be expected to see approximately 40 productions during the course of the year.
Interested applicants should apply by using one of the leaflets displayed in all West End theatre foyers or by sending a stamped addressed envelope to SOLT. Applicants are asked to write a 100-150 word review of a new production they have seen in the previous six months. Application forms should be sent to: Awards Panel Applications (T), SOLT, 32 Rose Street, London WC2E 9ET. Forms can be requested on +44-171-557-6777. The deadline for applications is 15 November 1999.
