Dance Chief Calls for Arts Council ScrappingDate: 9 October 1997Katharine Doré, director of leading dance company Adventures in Motion Pictures, called this week for the Arts Council to be scrapped and for a governmental rethink of arts funding. Earlier this year, AMP lost all of its funding, which it wanted to direct towards educational programming, following its commercial successes with productions like the all-male Swan Lake. Doré says she is happy to be out of the bureaucratic system. The criticism follows a week of bad publicity for the Council which has seen the resignation of its chief executive Lord Gowrie and the release of yesterday's report conclusions on its relationship with the Royal Opera House.
