Southbank’s Autumn Dance Season AnnouncedDate: 17 July 2009 An eclectic mix of dance events characterise the autumn season at the Southbank, which includes new work, UK premieres, talks and snap-shot presentations that introduce artists debuting in the UK.
South Bank Associate Artist Rafael Bonachela, who divides his time between directing Sydney Dance Company and running his UK troupe, collaborates with composer Ezio Bosso on a new piece The Land of Yes and the Land of No (25, 26 September).
Dance Umbrella events feature prominently this autumn, with Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company (18, 19 October) and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company (21, 22 October), plus the UK debut of emerging artist Nadia Beugré from the Ivory Coast (18, 19 October). There are also two DU talks/presentations: first, “Where are the women?” (21 October) which focuses on the perception that there are few high profile UK female choreographers; and second, “A Feeling for Practice”, with dancer and teacher Gill Clarke and Jeannie Steele describing their thoughts and ideas on how choreographers develop their techniques (18 October).
The Southbank season also includes the all-girl hip-hop group B.Young B.Supreme (23 October), National Dance Company Wales (6 November), Motionhouse (27 November), the Japanese Oshima Noh Theatre (2, 3 December), and Ennio Marchetto (11–22 December) and Into the Hoods (16 December–10 January) at Christmas. - by Sarah Frater Related ContentBack to Dance Homepage
