UK Theatre, the UK-wide sister organisation to SOLT, has announced ticket figures for last year.

Overall there was an increase of 3.61 per cent in gross sales, from £455,253,946 in 2015 to £471,694,561 in 2016. This increase happened despite the total number of tickets sold decreasing year on year from 19,189,156 in 2015 to 19,089,239 in 2016.

Part of the reason for the increase is that the average ticket price has gone up from £23.72 to £24.71 between 2015 and 2016. UK Theatre also said the increases were being "driven by a number of high profile shows and tours".

The figures are taken from venues which are members of UK Theatre, which currently stands at 253. But the figures also do not represent 100 per cent of tickets sales in all UK Theatre venues.

UK Theatre will publish its full benchmark report later this year.
