Comedian and actor Sean Hughes is currently starring in The Railway Children at King's Cross Theatre, playing stationmaster Mr Perks. Hughes, who is a Perrier Comedy Award-winning comedian, has acting credits including The Last Detective and Coronation Street, and also appeared onstage in As You Like It at Wyndham's Theatre.

We caught up with him to ask a few of his favourite things.

Film?

My favourite film would be One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. They really don't make films like this more. It simply has everything and Jack Nicholson was at his peak.

Place to hang out?

The South Bank. I love walking by the river being surrounded by all sorts of arts; my favourite spot is the Rothko room at Tate Modern.

Restaurant?

Mildred's in Soho. Oddly they have a strange policy where you can't book ahead. As a committed veggie I pretty much like all their food except aubergine which I think should be banned.

Holiday destination?

It has to be a trek in Africa to see mountain gorillas. That was astounding.

Play that you have seen?

My favourite play is Tom Murphy's A Whistle in the Dark. I have seen it twice ten years apart and it was like seeing two different plays as I related to different characters each time.

Actor?

I find Tom Hardy mesmerising. He is world class and in the film Locke it's just him on screen in a car for the whole film which he pulls off brilliantly.

Theatre to visit?

The Donmar Warehouse. I love the atmosphere they create and they do a lot of new plays which I think is vital.

Theatre you’ve performed in?

On my stand up tours I have played most around the country but in London I have done a couple of plays at the Wyndham's and stand up at Soho Theatre and the Tricycle.
