Prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova holds ballet's first 'Instagram photocall'
Prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova last night held ballet's first 'Instagram photocall', inviting hundreds to snap her latest production Her Name Was Carmen.
The Russian issued a call to Instagrammers to shoot behind-the-scenes at the London Coliseum, which is running the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre's production. The re-imagination of Bizet’s classic opera transposes the tragic heroin into a modern refugee camp.
Over 200 attended the event and shared their exclusive snaps online using the hashtag #BalletShot.
Kolesnikova said: "Ballet is the only 'high art' to have found a niche among the predominantly young Instagram audience, so it was lovely to meet so many of them today and to see them filtering and sharing all of their stunning pictures."

Her Name Was Carmen runs at the London Coliseum from 23 to 28 August.
