Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne nominated for BAFTAs

Theatre stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, Ralph Fiennes and Rosamund Pike are among the nominees for this year's BAFTA film awards.

Cumberbatch, who later this year will play Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre, is nominated for best actor for his portrayal of code cracker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, with co-star Keira Knightley also nominated for best supporting actress.

Redmayne will go up against Cumberbatch in the same category for playing Stephen Hawking in biopic The Theory Of Everything – Hawking is a character Cumberbatch has himself previously played.

Other actors nominated include Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel).

The best actress shortlist features Rosamund Pike for her performance in Gone Girl, alongisde Felicity Jones, Amy Adams, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon.

The Grand Budapest Hotel tops the list with 11 nominations, closely followed by Birdman and The Theory of Everything with ten apiece and The Imitation Game with nine.
