UK creative leaders have come together to submit an open letter to The Guardian urging the newspaper to reverse its decision to stop Lyn Gardner's theatre blog.

Artistic directors including Sarah Frankcom, Rupert Goold, Tom Morris, Nikolai Foster, Jenny Sealey, Edward Hall, Rufus Norris, Josie Rourke, Indhu Rubasingham and David Lan have all pledged their support of the blog.

In a letter, sent to the pages of The Guardian, they say: "[Gardner's blog] is an essential component of the narrative of UK theatre today.

"Through her blog she has created a vital public arena for everyone, from emerging artists and theatre makers, to those of us who are more established and running buildings. Such digital platforms are an indispensable stage for critical and creative thinking about our industry. Together we urge The Guardian to reconsider the decision about this blog."

The move comes following the announcement that The Guardian was stopping its contract with Gardner for 150 blogs a year. She will continue to write features and reviews. The reaction across the industry has been one of regret and writers, directors and theatre practitioners have called for the decision to be reversed.
