Eight new plays we'd like to see written for the stage

Because not everyone wants to see film adaptations

Our article on eight films we'd love to see on stage has caused a bit of a stir among theatregoers who would rather see original work than an adaptation of a film.

So we thought we'd come up with some potential material for original work. Got something you'd like to add? Let us know in the comments below or on twitter using #IdeasForAPlay

1. Dennis and Kim

Along the same lines as Peter Morgan's The Audience but the Queen and Margaret Thatcher are replaced with ex-basketball player Dennis Rodman and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Because we all want to know what they spoke about!

2. 1666

A play based on the diary entries of Samuel Pepys during the Great Fire of London. Will need lots of Flambar.

3. Come Dine With Me – The Musical

Pretty self explanatory really. Four dining rooms on a revolve, David Lamb narrates.

4. The Curious Incident of the Man on the Moon

A boy with an autistic spectrum disorder, who aspires to be an astronaut, uncovers some truths that may change the history books forever.

5. Barack the Opera

From Honolulu to the Whitehouse, how Obama became the first black leader of the US, in twelve part harmony.

6. The Battle for Dale Farm

Based on the events surrounding the eviction of travellers at Dale Farm, from the viewpoint of one of the inhabitants.

7. Hacked-off

Behind the scenes with Rebecca Brooks as the hacking scandal breaks.

8. An Andrew Lloyd Webber musical about… Andrew Lloyd Webber

Well, they do say write about what you know…
