WOS Radio: Theatregoers mark 60 years of The Mousetrap

West End granddaddy The Mousetrap celebrates its diamond anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion over 60 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers were welcomed last night at the St Martin’s Theatre, which has housed the record-breaking production for 34 years.

The Agatha Christie play takes place at Monkswell Manor, owned by Mollie and Riles Ralston. It houses four other guests that get snowed in and are forced to stay. After reading about a murder in the paper, a suspicious guest arrives that make the others feel uneasy. Things go awry when one of the guests is killed, resulting in a police investigation and a twisted ending that is sure to surprise…

After the performance, WOS theatregoers were joined by Jan Waters (Mrs Boyle), Marcel Bruneau (Detective-Sergeant Trotter) and producer Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen for an informative Q&A. It was revealed how they have kept the secret of ‘who did it’ and why the production has been on stage for so long. The cast answered questions about being a part of a piece that carries so much history, and how they managed to take over a role that’s been going on for 60 years. Waters, a four-time veteran of Mousetrap, explained set differences and working with a different director.
