Theatregoers Sing Tenor Praises at Reception
Whatsonstage.com theatregoers were laden with treats at our Outing to Lend Me a Tenor at the Gielgud Theatre last night (14 June 2011), including a programme, a poster and (for those lucky early bookers) a sampler CD, and of course not forgetting the all important sticker which gains access into the post show meet and greet with the cast! As with any new musical, the audience was expectant and excited about what the show would hold, especially after it was so well received in its pre-West End run in Plymouth.
Written by Peter Sham and Brad Carroll, Lend Me a Tenor is based on the award winning West End and Broadway hit comedy by Ken Ludwig. Based in 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, the Grand Opera Company is looking to the world’s greatest tenor, Tito Merelli, to increase their fortunes. When Tito is unexpectedly incapacitated, Max, the opera director’s mild mannered assistant, must try to save the day. Naturally, chaos ensues, with misidentify, murder and mayhem leading the way.
And we weren’t disappointed. As with any good farce the sheer speed at which the comedy unfolds is brilliantly funny and this was echoed by our theatregoers at the post show reception with the cast.
Matthew Kelly, Damien Humbley, Michael Matus, Sophie-Louise Dann and Cassidy Janson alongside many of the ensemble joined us for a glass of wine after the show. It was clear to see how close they are as a cast, and they all enthused about how much they loved the show, keeping their fingers crossed for a long run in the West End.
