Following yesterday's general election, which saw the Conservatives win a surprise majority, playwright Peter Morgan has updated the script for his award-winning play The Audience.

The play, about the weekly meeting between The Queen and her Prime Ministers, has been revived at the Apollo Theatre starring Kristin Scott Thomas as The Queen, the role originated in 2013 by Helen Mirren.

"In the same week as we opened The Audience it's been particularly interesting to have experienced such a dramatic general election," said Morgan.

"This morning I have rewritten the scene in my play between The Queen and David Cameron to reflect the events of last night and this morning... I hope tonight's audience in particular will enjoy our immediate response to today's results."

The Audience cast also includes David Calder as Winston Churchill, Mark Dexter as David Cameron and Tony Blair, Michael Gould as John Major, Gordon Kennedy as Gordon Brown, Sylvestra Le Touzel as Margaret Thatcher, David Robb as Anthony Eden and Nicholas Woodeson as Harold Wilson.

Stephen Daldry's production opened at the Apollo Theatre earlier this week to favourable reviews and is currently booking to 25 July 2015.
