The Evening Standard is currently running its second Christmas charity auction, which this year has a distinctly theatrical flavour. Among the lots being auctioned off is a pair of tickets to see David Tennant’s Hamlet on 2 January, which will no doubt be in even hotter demand following the Doctor Who actor’s absence from last night’s preview due to a back injury and today’s news that he will also miss tonight’s opening (See Today's News). The tickets have already attracted 17 bids, with the latest coming in at £320.

Over 200 lots are included in the auction, which is being run through Ebay and closes at noon on 15 December. Other highlights include a personal backstage tour from Gareth Gates following a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Adelphi, tickets to Grease followed by a meet-and-greet with Jimmy Osmond and the chance to watch The Pitmen Painters at the National in the company of Evening Standard theatre critic Nicholas de Jongh.

This year’s auction is being held in aid of London charity Greenhouse, which provides sport and performing arts programmes for young people in deprieved neighbourhoods across the capital. For more info visit www.standard.co.uk/auction.
