Plays cast: West End Mister Tom, Donmar’s all-female Caesar
Full casting has been announced for two major forthcoming productions: the transfer of Goodnight Mister Tom at the Phoenix Theatre and the all-female Julius Caesar at the Donmar Warehouse.
As previously announced, in Goodnight Mister Tom, which was first seen at Chichester Festival Theatre, Olivier award-winner Oliver Ford Davies reprises his role as Mister Tom.
He’ll be joined by others from the original cast including Louise Collins, Joanne Howarth, Aoife McMahon, Freya Parker, Georgina Sutton, Alan Vicary, Jonathan Warde and Emma Drysdale.
Other cast members include Elisa de Grey (Brilliant, Fevered Sleep), Bradley Hall (South Downs, West End) and Osmund Bullock (Autumn & Winter, Orange Tree).
Adapted from Michelle Magorian’s novel by David Wood,Goodnight Mister Tom
follows the story of the sad William Beech, who is evacuated to the
idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving
friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley. All seems perfect until
William is devastatingly summoned by his mother back to London.
It opens at the Phoenix for a limited nine-week season from 27 November (previews from 22 November) ahead of a national tour.
Full casting has also been announced for Phyllida Lloyd’s all female production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, which runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 4 December 2012 to 9 February 2013 (previews from 29 November).
The cast are: Jade Anouka (Calpurnia/Metellus Cimber), Frances Barber (Julius Caesar), Ishia Bennison (Casca), Helen Cripps (Cinna the Poet), Clare Dunne (Portia/Octavius Caesar), Jen Joseph (Trebonius), Charlotte Josephine (Lucius), Jenny Jules (Cassius), Cush Jumbo (Mark Antony), Irene Ketikidi (Dardanius), Carrie Rock (Soothsayer), Carolina Valdés (Cinna/ Volumnius), Harriet Walter (Brutus) and Danielle Ward (Clitus).
Phyllida Lloyd was last at the Donmar in 2005 when she directed Mary Stuart,
which won the 2006 South Bank Show Theatre Award and later transferred
to the West End and Broadway. Since then she has found success on the
big screen with the 2008 smash hit adaptation of Mamma Mia! (having directed the original stage production) and Oscar-winning Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady.
